That's OK, I was too lazy to look it up, either.

Must be all that tryptophan or something...

Whew!!

Sure glad I "conditionally" conceded the point!

hehehehehehe :D

I had read something to the effect that, while the threats get more media time with Obama, the actual count of threats aren't really out of the ordinary.. I just was too lazy to look up the reference... :D

No harm, no foul..

Thanx for the follow-up.. It's much appreciated.

Michale -

It looks like you may be right, and I may have remembered it faultily. I was reading today about testimony from the head of the Secret Service, and he said threats against Obama are pretty much at the normal levels for any president.

So I withdraw my earlier comment, and apologize for the error.

Actually, threats against Obama have risen like 400% over threats against Bush. There was a story about this around two weeks ago.

OK, I'll concede the point, conditionally.

However, my point was, we should all be concerned about threats against the President, REGARDLESS of who that President is.

I just didn't see much in the way of "outrage" around here when there were threats and verbal attacks on Bush..

To quote the learnéd philosopher Aaron McGruder ("Boondocks")…

"I don't care who you are, that right thar was funny as hell!!"

Personally, I think that way to much time has been spent on this, media-wise.. Between that and Tiger Woods, I think the media has surpassed itself on the reporting of inanities..

And that was not an easy thing to do.. :D

Ah! Finally something we can agree on!

To quote the learnéd philosopher Aaron McGruder ("Boondocks")...

HUEY: "Everyone is worried about kids and violence, right? And kids using guns -- so why don't they go after the gun manufacturers and gun dealers instead of people who make video games? It doesn't make sense."

RILEY: "Sure it does. Pretend you're some stupid activist person... who would YOU rather start beef with -- some nerd who makes video games or some dude with a warehouse full of AK-47s?"

HUEY: "You know, I'm actually MUCH more impressed by that point than I care to admit."

RILEY: "Of course I'm deep. Just don't tell nobody."

righty nuts are typically just better-armed and better planners; and therefore more successful in their mischief.

Perhaps...

But that just means the Right is willing to fight for their convictions and the Left just pays lip service to theirs.. :D

Although, in recent times, the Left has shown they don't mind getting their knuckles bruised and dirty..

Does that mean the Left is as good as the Right? Or as bad?? :D

as long as we're getting into comparative statements, let's examine what the difference actually is. michale, you're essentially correct that right wing crazies generally aren't crazier or more numerous than left wing crazies. righty nuts are typically just better-armed and better planners; and therefore more successful in their mischief.

Actually, you implied a comparative statement and made it appear that the threats against Obama are something new and unusual and that the elements (blogosphere, etc etc) that allegedly fantasize about President Obama's assassination is something unheard of previously.

I simply indicated you are mistaken and provided examples to support my position.

As far as the party crashers themselves.. I am sincerely curious..

Personally, I think that way to much time has been spent on this, media-wise.. Between that and Tiger Woods, I think the media has surpassed itself on the reporting of inanities..

And that was not an easy thing to do.. :D

As far as Bush goes, if you don't want to talk about him, I will (of course) acquiesce to your request...

Until (again, of course) he or his administration is dragged thru the mud again by the current administration who, ironically enough, is bent on making many of the same decisions and mistakes that Bush and his administration did. Did you check out the article regarding the Sunset of several Patriot Act provisions that Obama is pushing to have re-authorized?? :D

Go figger... :D

I guess I'm just saying that in an environment where President Obama's assassination is being fantasized about in certain segments of the media/blogosphere/punditocracy

As was President Bush. Hell, they even made a realistic MOVIE about the assassination of George Bush.

and where the Secret Service receives an inordinate number of threats against him,

I don't recall any evidence of any "inordinate" number of threats against President Obama.

Let's keep things in perspective here. President Obama is not the second-coming. Despite the milestone of being the first black President, there really isn't any credible evidence to show that he is more or less at risk than any other POTUS.

Oh, I know.. The Hysterical Left likes to be...well hysterical about the threats to "The One".

But these party-crashers were no more a threat to Obama or the Indian President than any other guest there...

"I know I speak for everyone here when I say how anxious we all are to give up our weekend over this. But, can anyone tell me what law has been broken? I mean, -ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY COLOR-??"
-Tony Shalhoub, THE SEIGE

:D

Last time I checked, it wasn't against the law to crash a party or to appear unannounced at the White House. If it were, imagine how many tourists have broken the law?? :D

Chris,

Matt is right...we can always count on a comprehensive historical perspective from you - that goes without saying. What seems to be missing here, though, is a little present-day context, insofar as the security implications of this little incident are concerned.

And, I'm surprised to read that since these two sad examples of human beings passed through the magnetometer with flying colours they posed no danger to anyone! Do we really seriously believe that? Do people have to be carrying metal to be a serious threat to life and limb?

I guess I'm just saying that in an environment where President Obama's assassination is being fantasized about in certain segments of the media/blogosphere/punditocracy and where the Secret Service receives an inordinate number of threats against him, and taking into account the fact that this was a state dinner in honour of India, a state not at all immune from the threat of terrorism...I could go on...that we should be making light of a security breach like this is incomprehensible to me.

Oh, it could have been a lot worse, alright. And, maybe it will be next time.
