It's usually the harbinger of a person who is always right. :D

You're getting to be so predictable that I could write your posts for you...you know, when you get tired. :)

It would be great fun!

In the case of Nixon, I can see that. I mean he was returning a bow, so that is at least understandable..

As for Ike.. Who knows?? Maybe he tripped or was preparing to head butt the Frenchie.. :D

Regardless none of that compares to the very low bow that Obama did. Hell, just a few inches more and he would have been licking the Emperor's shoes..

Personally, it's a minor point with me. Kinda like the Hysterical Left going all hysterical over Bush and his "nuk'lar" garbage..

But it's part and parcel to a pattern..

Obama is sure well on his way to being classified as the worst president ever. Even worser than Carter..

And THAT is pretty bad...

As for the bowing thing:

Pictures of Ike and Nixon bowing to world leaders (Ike to -- gasp! -- a Frenchman), as well as George W. Bush smooching a Saudi. And, for some bizarre reason, Bob Dylan and the pope.

Anyway, check it out.

No one was making up things about Bush (like he wasn't born in the U.S.). We didn't have to. He lead us into the wrong war on questionable evidence. He illegally authorized wiretaps.

Actually, it's been established as fact that Congress authorized every action the Bush Administration took.

Of course, Democrats in Congress conveniently tried to forget about such authorizations when their participation became public knowledge. Typical...

And I haven't seen any evidence other than personal opinions about his "haughtiness" and "subservience". Bowing could be interrupted in any number of ways- you could say, for example, that he was speaking to foreigners in their language.

So, you don't think such a low bow is an expression of submissiveness??

So, when we ever meet for a beer, you wouldn't mind bowing to me, would you?? After all, I met my wife in Japan.. :D

Face facts.. Obama has gone out of his way to piss off our allies and embrace our enemies...

The only question is whether he is doing it intentionally or simply out of incompetence...

Heheh. Of course I don't believe it to be true, Michale.

No one was making up things about Bush (like he wasn't born in the U.S.). We didn't have to. He lead us into the wrong war on questionable evidence. He illegally authorized wiretaps.

So it isn't the exact same thing.

And I haven't seen any evidence other than personal opinions about his "haughtiness" and "subservience". Bowing could be interrupted in any number of ways- you could say, for example, that he was speaking to foreigners in their language.

But we get that you have issues with him. We really do.

Remember when Obama was haughty and arrogant and thought he was God?

That was the first pundit attack on Obama. Guess that didn't stick well enough.

Now he's subservient and submissive?

I wish the conservative pundits would make up their minds.

President Obama manages to be both.

The problem here is that he is haughty and arrogant with the American people, but he is submissive and subservient to foreign leaders.

President Obama, AND this country, would be better served if it were reversed..

Because what I'm taking from them is this, we don't like Obama so we will say and do whatever it takes to bring him down regardless of how contradictory or foolish it is.

The EXACT same thing was true during the Bush years (remember "Nuk'lar"??) but ya'all didn't seem to mind it then.. How come?? :D

p.s. Michale, I can't wait for the reply that says: but this is what the liberal media did to President Bush!

Well there ya have it. And the fact that you KNEW it was coming must mean you know it to be true as well.... :D

One also has to consider the effect this will have on our allies.

Do you think ANY of our allies (who are left, that is) will want to share intelligence with us, knowing that their methods and procedures will likely be blown wide open in a civilian courtroom environment?

Or is it your belief that defense attorneys will simply accept "trust us, the evidence is real" assurances from the government??

Mark my words, Michale…this is going to be good!

It's going to be "good" insofar as the OJ Trial was "good"....

'Cept 30 times worse....

I have to admit, though. I am somewhat surprised to see such enthusiasm for such a blatant Kangaroo Court... These are the kinds of "court" that the Russians, the Iranians and the Cardassians have...

Frankly, I think the US is better than this..

But I guess that's just me...

If I were a New Yorker, I wouldn't find a change of venue the least bit amusing...and, I hope that a lot of time won't be wasted on it.

Ya know....

If this were a real criminal trial, all nice and legal and stuff, the defendants' lawyers would argue and receive a change of venue.

I think that this is a great idea and that the terrorists' trial should be moved to Chicago.

Think that'll happen?? :D

Michale,

It seems clear that you and I approach subjects from two entirely different - diametrically opposed, even - perspectives.

But, that's what makes chatting with you such fun! And, I mean that in a good way. :)

Being somewhat familiar with the Japanese culture, I can assure you that a bow is a show of submissiveness.

The Japanese (as a people) are one of the most arrogant and racist cultures on the face of the planet.

Now, whether or not Obama meant it as a sign of subversiveness is open to debate. But you can bet that submission is exactly how the Japanese people took it..

Respect is one thing... Groveling is completely another.

You can also bet that OTHER world leaders (Russians, Iranians, North Koreans) took it as a sign of weakness...

As for the NYC trials.. Seriously??

Let me ask you a question..

What would you call a trial where the verdict is a forgone conclusion? Where the government in question guarantees a conviction?

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't that the very definition of a "Kangaroo Court"??

And you think that such a spectacle will actually INCREASE the prestige of the United States in the eyes of the world??

Seriously???

Even ignoring that for the moment, do you know how many intelligence assets, CT techniques and the like will be exposed and therefore rendered useless by this trial??

One might as well hand Al Qaeda the codes to the nuclear football... It would be much quicker and easier that exposing all of our procedures and assets thru a trial..

The Obama Administration is reverting to a pre-9/11 mentality, treating terrorism as a LEO problem instead of the military problem it has become...

You can bet that Obama will preside over his own 9/11 if this public trial comes to pass...

Michale,

As for the terror trials in NYC...I can hardly wait! Literally! I may have to plan my vacation and days off around the most substantial parts of it, in fact.

The KSM trial in a civilian court in New York City could be - and, I think, will be - the best thing to happen in America’s ‘Long War’ in a very, very long time.

Of course, that assumes that every last judicial and democratic detail of it is broadcast far, wide and live across the entire Muslim world. I would go so far as to hope that the terrorist-in-chief will be within earshot of a television - he and his ilk may finally get a clue as to what they are up against in the war of ideas.

Funny, I don’t recall ever seeing President Obama acting subservient or submissive - in any way, shape or form! In fact, I have always detected an air of extreme superiority that hangs around him like a bad shirt...you know the look...nose in the air and walk like a peacock. Actually, I have come to love his swagger and unrestrained self-confidence. Seriously!

More seriously... those bows that seem to rub so many Americans the wrong way have to do with a simple show of respect - nothing more, nothing less. It’s just the decent thing to do in certain circumstances.

More seriously still...I’ve been thinking about this latest bow and the stir it has caused again and I have come to the conclusion that Americans who find this courtesy to be subservient or submissive or a show of weakness must themselves be weak with a certain tendency toward feelings of inferiority. I don’t know how else to explain it. I certainly don’t count you in this group and so I would suggest that you might just want to learn to love watching your president greet world leaders with respect and treat it as the mark of strength that it is!

This is precisely why our Chris sets the gold standard for political commentary.

His integrity, honesty, candor, humility and humour are always second to none and the way in which he has handled this situation demonstrates all of that...well, in spades!

Whether we have been here for a while or from the beginning, or whether we have just come today for the first time, it doesn't take long to realize that this is one of the premier sites in the blogosphere for credible, reliable, and reality-based political commentary and debate.

It is also quickly apparent that the high quality and caliber of comments here and of the people who make them and who engage in lively debate is a reflection right back onto Chris and how much he cares about promoting enlightened political discourse. That's what keeps us here and coming back for more...well, that and the absence of any word limits, of course!

Anyway, mea maxima culpa everyone, and my thanks to the Huffington Post commenter who pointed this out so I could correct it so quickly.

For the record, I beat 'jemeagirl' by a good 6 minutes! :D

But that's what I like about ya, CW.. You call a spade a spade, even when it's your own screwup..

That's what makes you such a good political commentator. :D
