Speaking of today's elections, what do ya'all think??

Do you think that a GOP sweep of today's elections (which appears likely) is a harbinger of things to come??

Or do ya'all think it's nothing but a political blip on the road to Democratic Party supremacy?? :D

Just curious...

It can be argued that the Nobel peace prize was awarded this year in a sincere effort to promote the reassertion of America's global leadership role and as an expression of how urgently much of the rest of the world awaits this transformation, especially in view of the near complete decimation of US credibility over the course of the previous administration.

But all Obama has done has been to make lofty speeches and promises that he has yet to keep.

If THAT is all it takes to "reassert America's global leadership", hell, *I* coulda done that!! :D

To this end, President Obama has put together an impressive team, beginning with the confidence he demonstrated in Vice President Biden as his chief advisor on foreign policy, a long time advocate of strengthening the instruments of America's soft power and someone who recognizes that the totality of America's strength lies not only in the example of its power but in the power of its example. It seems to me that the entire Obama cabinet demonstrates this kind of thinking - from the Department of State to the Department of Defense to the Treasury and beyond. At a time when a number of global challenges are coming to a head, it is reassuring to know that America is on its way back!

But what has he done??

You say he put together an "impressive" team...

But what have THEY done??

We still have troops dying in Iraq.

This impressive team can't even come to a decision about the "necessary" war in Afghanistan and our troops continue to die there at record levels. Hell, the Administration is pulling out Navy SEALS from Afghanistan and replacing them with EOD... What kind of "strategy" is that??

The economy is still in the tank.

Gitmo is still open for business and still waterboarding terrorists.

Obama hasn't accomplished a damn thing and yet he is given the most "prestigious" award on the planet???

As I said, all Americans should be deeply embarrassed by that.

Arafat won the prize and he is a scumbag terrorist.

Al Gore won the prize and he is a hypocrite and a greedy con-man.

Now, Obama won the prize, not because he dazzled the world with brilliance, but because he baffled the world with bullshit.

I tell ya, I am going to nominate CW for the prize
next year. He makes a LOT more sense than Obama and there is absolutely NO reason why CW shouldn't win it next year!!! :D

It's no coincidence, though, that those of us on the planet who generally view the Obama administration as an effective vehicle to regain US credibility in the world and restore its global leadership role…and, in essence, return honour to the promise of America, also generally view the awarding of the Nobel peace prize to President Obama not as controversial but as welcome incentive and encouragement for a new American president and administration to keep working toward these goals. The future of the planet depends on it…and that’s no hyperbole!

Well, I dunno if it's hyperbole or not, but it surely is a pipe dream.

Obama has about 3 years left in office, so I doubt he is going to meet ANY of those lofty ideals he made everyone (including me) swoon with. Actually, he really only has about a year left, because the GOP will be making huge strides in the mid-term elections. For Democrats, 2010 is going to make 1994 look like Utopian paradise by comparison. :D

The evidence is all around us, for those who care to look.. Everywhere, from Iowa to Washington State to Florida, Buyer's remorse is setting in.

And that's not just my interpretation.. That's the GOP, Independents **AND** Demcorat belief..

Today's off-season elections will show this..

And just think.. There are STILL some people out there who claim that the GOP is dead... :D

Today SHOULD be a wake-up call for all Democrats..

While I am still trying to absorb all of this data I too think it is very interesting to compare Obama to Regan. The lines for Obama seem gradual and smooth while those for Regan are very pointy. I have no idea what it all means but it is cool to look at the graphs so many thanks.

I don't really mind it if Obama drops in the polls because I am hoping that it means he is dragging us kicking and screaming in the right direction. Nobody likes reform because it is hard and painful so it is normal that his [Obama's] numbers might drop.

However, if he is playing the old shell game and not really working for real systemic change then a lot of people, myself included, will be very disappointed - only time will tell.

Somehow it was a "political liability" for Obama to have won one of the most (if not the most) prestigious awards on the planet.

It was, AND is, a political liability. Because the Nobel Peace Prize has not been ANY kind of prestigious award since they gave it to Arafat. It has eroded into being nothing more than a joke. A pale (very pale) imitation of the true glory that Alfred Nobel envisioned.

Especially in light of the reports from the committee after the award.

No, every American should be acutely embarrassed that our President "won" this award. It's like he was awarded "The Most Awesome Person In The Galaxy" award. It's ridiculous in it's absurdity and totally incompatible with Obama's actions in the, what?? 12 days he was in office to be considered for it.
