Such as "winning the Nobel Prize is a serious political setback for Barack Obama." Um… what?

This one is easy..

It actually IS a bad thing for Obama because it shows the total outrageousness of this personality cult that Obama has had built around him. He hasn't really DONE anything and has FAILED at many things he has stated he would do. Apparently, the majority of the Nobel Awards committee felt the same way initially.

It's like Obama being awarded the Most Awesome Person In The Galaxy prize!! It's hyperbole in the extreme and makes it very hard for people who live in reality to take the recipient seriously.

Anyone who has their head firmly planted in reality should be acutely embarrassed that Obama won this award, which has now been confirmed to be meaningless.

For introducing such a commonsense bill, Senator Durbin is hereby awarded the Most Impressive Democrat Of The Week award.

The best solution for the drug problem was fictionalized by Stephen Coonts in his Jake Grafton novel, UNDER SEIGE... :D

I am surprised with all the talk of media and such, not ONE person here mentions the White House attacks on FoxNews...

Actually, now that I think about, I am not so surprised..

I have a new name for ya'all...

LINO.....

Liberals In Name Only....

And, following CW's lead (who follow Colbert's) every time ya'all mention LINO and have to explain it, you credit your's truly..

Let's see, moving on...

There will be no public option in DunselCare. This is a forgone conclusion. The only thing that pushing for the Public Option will accomplish is insuring there will be no DunselCare at all.

Which would actually be a shame, because our HealthCare system DOES need reforming. The only problem is, with one or two exceptions, the GOOD ideas are coming from the GOP.. And, of course, Democrats can't employ those ideas for two reasons. A> Because it will piss off their donors and 2> Because it concede that, yes, Republicans CAN have good ideas..

OH MY GODS, THE HORROR OF IT ALL!!!!

{/sarcasm}

One thing that is interesting to note. I haven't heard any of Pelosi's "THERE WILL BE A PUBLIC OPTION!!!" rant in quite a while.. She has been quite subdued (if you can imagine that) of late about her way or the highway.. That right there should be a good indication to you that there will be no public option..

One point he made that I was screaming at the TV myself:

Do you do that often?? Scream at the TV, I mean?? Jeeze, and you claim *I* have problems??

@nypoet22

to mark the 100th ftp, how about a top five list for best ftp of all time?

Awesome idea!! Based on what criteria??

Kevinem and Chris, both of you should read my guest blogger's post: "Up in the sky! it's a bird, it's a plane, it's a White Bronco"

One point he made that I was screaming at the TV myself: if the boy had been inside a balloon full of helium, he was already dead. Because helium isn't, you know, oxygen.

Chris,

I don't know if you're a fan, but here's a clip of my favorite songwriter:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5yTYZskz58

Garry Trudeau, Hunter S., and Randy Newman were my idols from about 1971 till now.

Chris,

The OJ chase is a good example. I would go further and say the whole trial exemplifies the problem. I had a pathetic housemate who watched the proceedings religiously, when all one had to do was read the newspapers for a quick summary of what little happened day-to-day.
I wonder how the MSM would have handled Watergate today. I shudder to think about it...journalism actually did its job back then.

Kevin -

I would guess "the late 1990s" personally.

I still say the OJ chase was the beginning of it all. I was traveling that day, and I was astonished in the airport -- EVERYone, including off duty pilots were crammed into the bars, glued to the screen. Sheesh.

OK, I've been waiting for one of the other regulars to comment, but at this point, no joy so far. The only idea I'd like to suggest is that "newsiness" is already too deeply ingrained for your suggestion to catch on. I've been ranting at my friends for several years now about "who cares about Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, L.Lohan and assorted other pseudo-celebrities and what boring crap they're up to!!!"
I'd be more interested in nailing down a rough time period for when this became the norm rather than the exception.
Off the top of my head, I blame Entertainment Tonite, although it took an awfully long time to pollute other outlets. As an old codger, I remember when CNN had a good reputation, especially during the first Gulf War. Any suggestions out there about when the putrefaction set in?
