Further factoid: the tune of "Star Spangled Banner" actually derives from a bawdy English drinking song.

Now I have a question for you, Chris: why is it that none of out TV networks is airing "1776" today? Why isn't there at least one TV channel playing it nonstop, the way they play "Christmas Story"?

I just found out about a petition campaign underway at VoteVets.org to repeal the DADT policy.

If you support the repeal of DADT, then head over to VoteVets.org and add your name to this petition!

Well, Chris...since we swept the O's and the O's swept us, we should probably come up with a fun bet for the next series. We actually end our season - unless there is a miracle to end all miracles - in Baltimore. Hmmmm...Is it still hot and humid there in early October?

Elizabeth -

Thanks for that wonderful story! The only thing which would have made it better (speaking as an Orioles fan) is if you had beaten the Red Sox or the Yankees...

I promise to learn the words of "O Canada" in case I ever get an opportunity such as you described.

:-)

On July 1st, I was at the SkyDome in Toronto enjoying the Blue Jays shut out the Tampa Bay Rays on a glorious Canada Day.

And, I just wanted to say that the Star Spangled Banner was beautifully sung during the pre-game festivities and received a hearty round of applause. You could even hear a good number in the crowd of over 30,000 - not a bad crowd but, still far from the good ole days when the SkyDome was filled to the rafters with more than 52,000...per game! - singing along in a wonderful display of friendship and celebration.

Happy Fourth of July, everyone!
