<I>The 'Sotomayor is racist' argument comes down to the idea that</I>

Why do you insist on creating an argument that is non-existent??

No one here is making the argument that Sotomayor is a racist.

The only debate is whether or not Sotomayor has made any racist (and now sexist) comments.

And, as the FACTS clearly show, she has made both....

Like has always been said on here, I am surprised I have to explain this stuff...

@Liz

Well, Bashi himself (herself??) specifically made the "emotional charge" argument.

You know how emotional arguments play with me.. :D

I look at the facts and the facts only..

Fact #1
The definition of racist has two components. An expression of superiority or inferiority. And the issue of race as a determinative factor.

Fact #2
Sotomayor's statement contains BOTH components. An expression of superiority and the element of race as a determinant.

Given these facts, the ONLY logical and rational conclusion possible is that the statement IS a racist statement.

We now come to learn that Sotomayor made nearly the EXACT same comment (excluding race) back in 1994.

<B>"I would hope that a wise woman with the richness of her experiences would, more often than not, reach a better conclusion" than a wise man. "What is better?" she said. "I ... hope that better will mean a more compassionate, caring conclusion."</B>

Although this statement expresses a superiority of gender, which makes it a sexist statement..

I have to say that Sotomayor seems to have a superiority complex based on these statements...

So, to date, we have an expression of superiority of her race over another race and of her gender over another gender...

Frankly, I am amazed that TRUE Liberals can stomach this...

Guess I am out-liberal'ing the Liberals here, eh?? :D

Michale,

You sure know how to put the knife in and twist it. Why is it that you find any view of these facts that is contrary to your own to be nothing more than emotional and hysterical baggage.

I don't mind telling you that I feel those cuts personally and it seriously ruffles my feathers...
just kidding. :-)

Yes, it does appear that it is just me who is thinking logically and rationally about this issue.

When one has logical and rational facts on their side and the opposing side has nothing but an "emotional charge" it's clear who is right and who is wrong on the issue..

Sure would be nice if the emotional and hysterical baggage could be left by the wayside and only the FACTS be argued.

But that would eliminate near 98% of the Hysterical Left's positions.. We can't have THAT, now can we?? :D

There also seems to be some very real 2nd Amendment issues and Constitutional vs Executive Power issues as well with the Sotomayor..

Who woulda thunked that the Democrats would actually support the shredding the US Constitution for the purposes of extending the Executive Power of the President.

What a crazy topsy-turvy time we live in, no??

Like I said, "If Obama is elected, it will be a heady time to be an American."

I must be tele-pathetic!! :D

The 'Sotomayor is racist' argument comes down to the idea that

"I would hope that a Latina woman with the richness of her experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life"

Equals:

1) Walking up to a stranger, shouting "nigger!" and <a href="http://washingtonindependent.com/45214/tancredo-buchanan-bruised-by-racist-karate-chop" rel="nofollow">karate-chopping them</a>.

2) A 500-year history of slavery, brutal repression, and marginalization.

3) Truncheon-wielding Alabama state troopers on the Selma bridge.

...and so much more.

So, let me see if I understand this..

You have a problem with a white male Republican calling a black person, "boy"..

Yet, you don't see a problem in a hispanic female saying that she hopes her life experiences make her more wise, judicially, than a white male..

So, let me ask this..

Would you have a problem with a Japanese female Democrat calling a white person, "Gaijin"??

And would you have a problem with a white Republican saying that he hopes his life experiences would make him more wise, judicially, than a black female.

Maybe it's just the liberal in me, but I would think ANY liberal would have a problem with ANY of those statements...

Like Liz said, "Maybe it's just me."
