I was all for giving Burris a break until I read about his attempt to have his appointment certified by god. I was therefore very happy when I heard that he had been refused entry to the Senate this morning.

I'd so hoped after the recent excitements that politicians would restrain themselves just a bit from the impulse to run to a church at the slightest provocation and have a revivalist tent meeting. No, Mr Burris, god had nothing to do with this.

See, the thing is Roland Burris is a nice guy. He's a Democratic Party lifer, never been in any serious trouble, a Good Soldier. (After the announcement Burris was on Rachel Maddow's show, and totally stuck to the talking points, which are true, and quite narrow. The Gov has not been tried, convicted, or thrown out. He still has the legal authority to make appointments. And Illinois is short a Senator. So there. And he wouldn't budge from them when Rachel tried to get him to admit that the process might possibly seem just a bit hinky.) Even if the governor is an amoral sociopath (I said if), he asked for a volunteer and Roland Burris took two steps forward. And he will carry out his mission, which is to be a red herring. From now on any criticism of Gov Blowdryovich and his political shenanigans gets turned into an accusation of racism against Burris. (see: Bobby Rush).
