Sheisskopfen!

Heh heh. Bet you won't find that in your German/English dictionaries.

Hey, I let the cartoonist's cartoons speak for themselves. I didn't suggest this cartoon, and I didn't edit it one bit. The only cartoon I have rejected was one that (through my own ignorance probably) I didn't understand (didn't "get the joke").

Having said that, I don't see any reference to Florida in that cartoon, myself.

I still have not bothered to view the video, sorry. As far as free speech court cases are concerned, it seems this wouldn't make a good "test case" from what I have read about it. Having not seen the video, I have to say the kid doesn't sound like he's behaving perfectly, the cops don't sound like they're behaving perfectly, but it doesn't sound like material for a "federal case." I'll just leave it at that. And point out that when I DO believe in the cause, I say so loudly (see previous columns on "Bong Hits 4 Jesus" for instance). And I 100% agree with Michael Gass' last sentence, in his posted comment above.

The "T-shirt on fire" was funny, CDub, I have to admit!

Dankeshoen to all for posting.

You're 2 phrases up on me, I had to find a translation, which is where I found the other phrase, which likely translates as, "Can you help me get my car out of this tree." -or- "Excuse me sir, your tee-shirt is on fire and we're trying to watch this movie".

You get escorted out and arrested if you do that...

>Being told you cannot wear a t-shirt to
>an event is a free speech issue.

Is it??

I would say it would depend on what the T-Shirt says....

Wouldn't you agree???

Chris,

Here is the video that shows the arrest as clearly as you are going to get:

<a href="http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article2489183.ece" rel="nofollow">click
here</a>

The kid is already been informed he is under arrest when they are ushering him out, so, the use of force continuum:

- He is asked to leave.
- He is told to leave.
- He is escorted with minimal physical assistance
- He is carried out bodily
- He is tackled to the floor
- He is finally tased

Watch the video...

He yanks out of the cops grasp at the door, is tackled to the ground, and informed he can either comply and be handcuffed or get tased. His choice... he got tased.

Now... is this a question of free speech?

Not in my eyes.

The kid first:

- Jumped line to get his question(s) on camera

He is allowed to speak until he brings up the Skull and Bones/Illuminati BS... then the mic is cut.

So, I don't see this as a free speech issue, but, as a kid who wanted attention and to create a scene in front of the cameras.

The free speech zones set up by candidates IS an issue of free speech. Being told you cannot wear a t-shirt to an event is a free speech issue.

Perhaps you should amend the cartoon to read, "WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO EXERCISE YOUR 'FREE SPEECH' RIGHTS?? THERE ARE NO MEDIA CAMERAS AROUND???"

It's actually ironic that you would put up this cartoon...

It seems our UofFL Taser Guy was only mouthy and froggy when the Media was around... When they were out of earshot, he was docile as a little lamb...

So, deliver me from people who would ABUSE the notion of free speech...
